Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old in Long Beach, CA. DuVernay began to develop her artistic and creative side when she was a young girl, thanks to Aunt Denise. Her aunt worked the night shift as nurse, so she could follow her passion for art literature and theater throughout the day. DuVernay became enamored with the 1961 movie West Side Story after her aunt recommended it to DuVernay. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's example the power of art as an activist vehicle. Her mother was also a social consciousness and taught DuVernay how to convey messages via art. DuVernay was a summer resident of Lowndes County Alabama, where the father of DuVernay was born and brought up. Her father was awed by the historical civil rights marches over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby city of Selma Alabama. The time spent in Selma, Alabama during the summer, was later the inspiration to write a script for a film based on The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as his Civil Rights Movement. In 1990 DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. DuVernay went to the University of California Los Angeles upon graduation. There she received qualifications in English and African American Studies. DuVernay began producing for broadcast journalism while she was still at college. She began her career as an assistant to CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was told to take a look at the junk of a jury member's home. In the course of her tasks she was dissatisfied with journalism and moved into the public relations industry. DuVernay began her first position as a publicist at small production studios right after she graduated from school. The year 1999 was the time she established her own company of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency. Apart from PR, the agency established several lifestyle platforms like Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
